About

Handmade by Jeanette began as a simple act of creativity and care. One Christmas, a close friend who has celiac disease invited me to dinner and asked me to bring dessert. Naturally, I thought of the traditional Caribbean black cake—but how could I recreate that same rich, nostalgic taste without using wheat flour?

At that time, I was transitioning in my culinary career, focusing more on clean eating, mindful living, and the growing need to address lifestyle diseases through food. I started experimenting with gluten-free alternatives like sweet potato and breadfruit flour. My first attempts were dense and heavy, but through trial and error, I discovered that combining heavier flours with lighter ones—such as cassava or rice—created the perfect balance. Using coconut oil instead of butter and folding whipped egg whites into the fruit and rum mixture gave the cake its light, airy texture without compromising flavor.

My friends and family became my first taste-testers, always eager to try the next creation. One day, after making a granola bar with quinoa instead of oats, a friend told me, “Jay, you have to put this on the market—it’s so good!” That encouragement inspired me to refine the recipe using oats and cocoa nibs, and from there, our Breakfast Mix Granola was born.

In 2020, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we officially launched Handmade by Jeanette Company in Trinidad. What began as a home experiment has since evolved into a sustainable food brand focused on health, flavor, and authenticity. Today, our product line includes nutrient-dense granolas, sauces, and spice blends—all crafted to nourish the body while celebrating the vibrant flavors of the Caribbean.

At Handmade by Jeanette Company, every product tells a story of resilience, creativity, and the belief that healthy food should be both wholesome and delicious.
